The portion of the quote above is often attributed to the former US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She did utter those words during oral arguments before the Supreme Court in a 1973 case, however, she was referencing the original full quote made almost two hundred years earlier by Sarah Moore Grimké, a 19th century US abolitionist and women's rights activist;

“Even admitting that Eve (from the biblical story of Adam and Eve) was the greater sinner, it seems to me man might be satisfied with the dominion he has claimed and exercised for nearly six thousand years, and that more true nobility would be manifested by endeavoring to raise the fallen and invigorate the weak, than by keeping women in subjection.
But I ask no favors for my sex. I surrender not our claim to equality. All I ask of our brethren is, that they will take their feet from off our necks, and permit us to stand upright on that ground which God designed us to occupy.”

Paying homage to the struggles of famous women throughout history, but more so, celebrating today’s female tech leaders, Seibert Media's second Women In Tech Night was recently held on March 16. Once again taking place at our headquarters in Wiesbaden, Germany, this incredible event “by women for women” was developed and inspired with the goal to “create female role models and offer women from the technology industry a platform to share their experiences from everyday working life”.

With over 20 speakers and three areas of focus - “Tech Enthusiasts”, “Young Professionals”, and “IT Industry Experience” - there was something for everyone. And while the majority of presentations were offered only in German, for our English-speaking audience, there were three in English. One, in particular, we’d like to note was Samia Rabah’s “My Transition From Software Developer to Cloud Engineer”.

As a DevOps and Cloud Consultant with Demicon, Samia’s career in tech has taken a wonderful journey as a data science intern, to backend software and fullstack developer, to her current role. She shares some tips and tricks that have made her experience both a whirlwind and an engaging one. Certainly, everyone’s professional career journey is unique, but there are some common threads that bind them together, particularly the challenges facing women in tech over the last decade.

Samia describes a large portion of her experience transitioning from developer to DevOps with the underlying, consistent questioning of “there has to be a better way to do this!”. Or maybe you're curious as to what’s involved with “DevOps” as there seems to be a buzz about it nowadays.
